He was reunited with the cat and her grateful owner Bella on Thursday.

Mother Sarah Henry said Bella and her siblings Matt and Libby had been distraught after Wabi went missing for three days.

“When Wabi was missing Matt would go outside and call out for him over and over,” she said.

“It was heartbreaking to watch, so you can imagine our delight when we got the call from the RSPCA, on the day of Bella’s sixth birthday no less, to say the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service had rescued him.” Mr Mitchell said he had picked up a few scratches while bringing Wabi back down to earth.

BIRMINGHAM fireman Mike Jenkins took his work home with him – when he adopted a kitten he rescued from beneath a pile of old wood. Mike, based at Hay Mills station, thought the black and white puss was the cat’s whiskers after saving her in the garden of a house in Sparkbrook. The four-week-old kitten, which has been named Sparkle, came into Mike’s life at just the right time as his family’s cat, Marmalade, was run over and killed a month earlier. Dad-of-two Mike said: “When we moved to the Midlands we got a cat as a sweetener for our nine-year-old daughter, Alisha. Then a month ago, it was run over and Alisha was devastated. “When we rescued the kitten, I told my wife Diane what had happened and she said we should adopt her. Alisha was delighted.” (Oct 21, 2009) —Photo credit not given in article.

Well, no, but here’s hoping this little orange cutie has already been adopted.

Firefighters from Sacramento Fire Station #30 in North Natomas made an unusual rescue yesterday. A man called and said that he had just driven away from his home, when about three blocks later he heard “a meowing” noise coming from inside the engine area of his car. He immediately pulled over and lifted his hood. He heard what sounded like a cat somewhere inside the engine compartment. Engine #30 responded and to everyone’s surprise, they found this little kitten tucked up under the car’s radiator. Fortunately he was safely removed and uninjured! The Firefighters from Engine #30 took the kitten back to their fire house where they bathed him and gave him some food and water. (September 17, 2009) —Photo credit not given in article

At last a story from home!

SAN FRANCISCO—A pair of kittens may only have eight lives left after firefighters rescued them from a smoky San Francisco apartment building blaze early Friday and brought them back from the brink of death. San Francisco Fire Chief Art Kenney told KTVU that the one-alarm fire erupted in a rear kitchen in the three-story apartment building located at 951 Jackson St. at around 2:45 a.m. Arriving firefighters were able to quickly keep the flames from spreading to the other units and locate the residents who had evacuated the building. “Firefighters did a good job getting in there and stopping the spread of it,” Kenney said. “There was a lot of smoke and they came across a couple of kittens. They were unconscious. We were able to revive them.” (June 12, 2009) —Photo: KTVU

Firefighters worked for an hour to free the animal, which was wedged in the tube with only its head sticking out into the air. The cat was eventually pulled free using a host of cutting tools and a bottle of vegetable oil, according to officials. Rescuers dubbed the animal Piper and transported it to A Helping Paw, an animal shelter in Wareham. The kitten suffered a broken paw and was emaciated and dehydrated, but is expected to recover from the ordeal. Veterinarians will monitor the animal to see if the broken paw will require surgery to heal properly. Anyone interested in adopting Piper or donating to A Helping Paw can contact the shelter … through its Web site.
